UAAP: NU Lady Bulldogs open taekwondo title bid on high note

MANILA, Philippines – National University (NU) opened its title-retention bid in the women's division with a 5-2 victory over De La Salle University on Wednesday in the UAAP Season 80 taekwondo tournament at the Blue Eagle Gym.

Sisters Rhezie and Rheza Aragon led the charge for the Lady Bulldogs, who are tipped as one of the favorites in the three-day tournament.

In other women's results, University of Santo Tomas (UST) dominated University of the East (UE), 6-1, while Ateneo de Manila University edged University of the Philippines (UP), 4-3, , behind last season's top rookie Pauline Lopez.

La Salle bounced back from its defeat to NU in the afternoon session with a 5-2 dismantling of Far Eastern University (FEU).

Meanwhile, UP took the solo lead in the men's division, thanks to a 4-3 win over defending champion UST, and a 6-1 conquest of Ateneo.

Other men's opening bouts showed NU prevailing over La Salle, 5-2, and FEU emerging victorious over UE, 5-2.

UST secured the juniors title, with Israel Cantos begging MVP honors. NU, which lost to UST via tiebreak, finished in second place, while De La Salle-Zobel edged defending champion UE via tiebreak for third place.
