MANILA, Philippines -- Kia Picanto has traded LA Revilla to Phoenix in exchange for rookie Jayson Grimaldo and a second-round pick in the 2018 PBA Rookie Draft.
Sports website Spin reported the development from Los Angeles, where the PBA Board of Governors is supposed to hold a planning session ahead of the new season.
Revilla has been part of the Kia franchise since it entered the PBA in the 2014-15 season as an expansion team. But he has grown disillusioned with the squad, and memorably criticized Kia's decision to trade the No. 1 pick in the 2017 draft to San Miguel in a controversial tweet.
"Kung magpapalusot man lang, sana ginandahan niyo na ang rason," Revilla tweeted last October 27 after Kia's trade to San Miguel was made official. "Hindi talaga eh. Bagsak kayo sigurado kung may lie detector."
He was made available for a trade following that tweet and was told not to report any more to Kia's practices.
Revilla will now be part of a Phoenix team that is looking to rise to another level with new coach Louie Alas at the helm.
However, the trade will still have to be approved by the PBA Commissioner's Office. According to Spin's report, Kia has yet to submit trade papers.
