After a slow start in the UAAP 80 Men’s Basketball Tournament, head coach Franz Pumaren has been saying he’s finally seeing the real Adamson University.
The real Adamson made another appearance on Saturday at the Araneta Coliseum, burning down Far Eastern University for a 95-79 wire-to-wire win.
Jerrick Ahanmisi and Jonathan Espeleta went back-to-back to begin the matchup before the rest of their teammates followed suit for a 21-8 edge.
From there, Ahanmisi and Espeleta would only keep their foot on the pedal and already had 10 and 12 points, respectively, at the half.
At that point, the Soaring Falcons were way ahead, 61-40, and would never look back all the way to a fourth consecutive victory.
In the end, Ahanmisi and Espeleta both had 17 points to their name and were backstopped by Papi Sarr with a 14-point, 14-rebound double-double.
Pumaren’s pair of point guards also made their mark as Koko Pingoy had 10 points, 10 assists, and three steals and Rob Manalang had 11 markers built on three triples.
As a team, Adamson made good on 10-of-21 of their attempts form long-range compared to their opponents which converted none of their five.
Despite having only one win to show in their first three games, the San Marcelino-based squad now finds itself in sole possession of the third spot. “There were times that we had a lot of mistakes, but I think we have surprised a lot of people that we are in this position,” head coach Franz Pumaren said.
On the other hand, the Tamaraws drop down one level as their 4-3 record is good for solo fourth.
Jasper Parker and Ron Dennison topped the scoring column for them with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Without any kind of rhythm all throughout, however, they see their three-game win run come to an end.
