Australia defeated the Philippines 77-43 in the semifinals of the 2018 FIBA Under-18 Asian Championship at Stadium 29 in Bangkok on Friday.

The Australians will face New Zealand in the gold-medal game, while Batang Gilas will play China in a battle for bronze on Saturday.

It was the Philippines' first loss after 4 wins in a row.

AJ Edu led Batang Gilas with 9 points and 10 rebounds, while Kai Sotto tallied just 2 points to go with 8 rebounds.

After trailing just 14-12 in the first quarter, the Filipinos unraveled in the second.

Australia pressed the Batang Gilas ball-handlers and used its length to neutralize big men Sotto and Edu, and outscore the Philippines 30-8 in the second quarter.

At halftime, the lead ballooned to 44-20 as coach Darren Perry's squad cruised to victory, its fifth straight.

Australia routed the Philippines 46-16 in the second and third quarters combined.

The last time the 2 countries met, Australia won by default 79-48 after both sides engaged in a free-for-all in a 2019 FIBA World Cup qualifying game at Philippine Arena on July 2.
