MANILA, Philippines – After registering import-like numbers in TNT's all-important Game 4 in the PBA Commissioner's Cup semifinals against Ginebra, Jayson Castro has been tabbed as the Player of the Week for the period of June 13-18.
With import Joshua Smith playing through a torn ligament on his right foot, Castro took charge last Saturday as he scored 38 points on top of 11 assists and seven rebounds to spearhead TNT's 122-109 win that ousted Ginebra.
The victory ensured that TNT will advance to the PBA Finals for the first time since the 2015 Commissioner's Cup.
Castro, 30, was at his best in the fourth quarter, when he scored 10 of his team's last 17 points to break the hearts of the Barangay.
TNT will move on to face San Miguel Beer in the best-of-seven finals that starts on Wednesday.
Castro edged out SMB's June Mar Fajardo, Alex Cabagnot, and Chris Ross for the weekly citation.
The KaTropa are eyeing to end a two-year title drought, having won their last PBA crown in the 2015 PBA Commissioner's Cup behind flamboyant import Ivan Johnson.
