MANILA, Philippines – In just her first season as a UAAP competitor, Ateneo de Manila University swimmer Chloe Daos has already won more than most athletes for their entire careers.

As a rookie, Daos was dominant in the UAAP Season 80 swimming competition, ruling the 800-meter, 400-meter, and 200-meter freestyle events, as well as the 200-meter, 100-meter, and 50-meter butterfly. She placed second in the 100-meter freestyle.

With the 18-year-old leading the way, the Ateneo women's team fended off University of the Philippines to regain the swimming crown, its third title in the past four years.

Daos went on to earn Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player honors in Season 80. However, she wasn't done: Daos was also named Athlete of the Year upon the conclusion of the season on Wednesday at the Far Eastern University Auditorium.

"I think it's just really amazing, and I'm still in shock that all of this has happened," said Daos after the brief closing ceremony.

"I'm extremely grateful to be part of the UAAP because it allows athletes to showcase their talents in their respective sports."

Having already achieved so much in just her first year, Daos is reluctant to promise anything for her sophomore campaign.

"Hopefully, no expectations of anything," said Daos, who also won a silver medal for the Philippines in the 200-meter butterfly event of the Southeast Asian Age Group Swimming Championships.

Instead, all Daos will guarantee is that she will continue to perform as best as she can for an Ateneo team that wants to keep setting the standard in UAAP swimming.

"Just an assurance of my best effort, and hopefully, that will be enough," she said.
