Jerwin Ancajas' junior-bantamweight title defense against Jonas “Zorro” Sultan will mark the first time in 100 years since 2 Filipino boxers clashed for a world championship.

The last all-Filipino title clash took place at Wallace Field in Luneta Park back in May 1925 when Filipino boxing great Pancho Villa defeated Clever Sencio.

Ancajas said he relishes the chance to make his mark in Philippine sports.

He also shrugged off statements critical of the all-Filipino clash, saying that the bout should be viewed as an opportunity to show the Pinoy brand of boxing.

The fight, which will take place on April 14 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, will be on the undercard of Jeff Horn’s welterweight title defense against Terence Crawford.

Sultan won the chance to fight Ancajas by pulling off an upset against former world champion JohnRiel Casimero last September.

Trainer Joven Jimenez stressed it would be unwise to underestimate Sultan.

Ancajas (29-1) agreed.
