Despite government-mandated signal interruptions by the country's telecommunications providers, the photography team of ABS-CBN News Digital--George Calvelo, Jonathan Cellona, Mark Demayo--went through the 22-hour, grueling Black Nazarene procession and came out with a story on a messaging app highly dependent on internet connection.

Faced with the task of providing up-to-date posts on the social media app, Instagram, while the procession was ongoing, albeit with intermittent or no cellular signal, the assignment became an experiment on surviving a scenario of delivering news where there is limited technology.

That meant constant trips to around 2 kilometers away from the route of the procession where the signal was not jammed, or finding a wi-fi connection within the area of the route.

A visual feast as well as a journey of faith, millions of devotees joined this year's Traslacion (transfer) of the Black Nazarene in an effort to touch the 1.5-meter religious icon.

This time, our photographers dumped their DSLRs and used smartphones to deliver the story where it is closest to the audience: the phones in their hands.

Here are the photographs of the Black Nazarene procession, on Instagram Stories.
