Thousands marched in Manila to commemorate International Human Rights Day on Sunday.

Groups criticized the government amid a spate of killings, involving not just suspected drug users during police operations but also activists and farmers in the country's far-flung areas.

Protesters raised concerns regarding increasing violations as human rights workers have been allegedly killed for helping threatened communities. Church groups also decried the recent death of a Catholic priest gunned down in Nueva Ecija for allegedly supporting leftist activists.

Likewise, demonstrators urged the resumption of peace talks with the Communist Party of the Philippines—New People’s Army, five days the armed wing of the National Democratic Front was declared a terror group.
