The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday vowed to investigate the case of a family allegedly killed by policemen in an operation in the town of Tubod, Lanao Del Norte.
PNP spokesperson Chief Supt. Dionardo Carlos said the police Internal Affairs Service (IAS) would look into the case and that the national headquarters would act on it if the case is elevated.
"Unang-una, mayroong namatay, papasok ho agad ang Internal Affairs Service," he said Wednesday.
A family of three died early Monday morning in a police operation when the father, Bevino Laride Jr., allegedly resisted and fired at officers out to arrest him on frustrated murder charges.
An officer's gun, allegedly set on automatic, triggered a sporadic spray of bullets, hitting the suspect's pregnant partner and 5-month-old baby.
Their relatives, however, denied that Laride had a gun, saying he was too poor to buy one.
Officers involved in the incident have been placed under restrictive custody pending investigation.
