Human rights activists and relatives of slain 19-year-old Luman student Obillo Bay-ao held a funeral march to condemn the killing.

DAVAO CITY- A human rights group on Wednesday urged Congress to look into the killing of 19-year-old Lumad student Obillo Bay-ao.

Karapatan-Southern Mindanao Region Secretary General Jay Apiag said the congressional hearing will help support the formal complaint filed against the perpetrators.

Human rights activists and relatives of the slain teen held a funeral march to condemn the killing.

The funeral march was held from Sasa to Panacan, Davao City. Protesters also rallied in front of Eastern Mindanao Command headquarters.

The military has vehemently denied allegations that it was behind the teen's death.

Rius Valle, Save Our Schools Network spokesperson, earlier said Bay-ao was on his way home from the farm when he was shot allegedly by Joven and Ben Salangani, supposed Citizen Armed Force Geographical Units (CAFGU) members in the community.

The group alleged that Bay-ao was the 47th Lumad killed in the Davao region under the Duterte administration.

Bay-ao will be laid to rest in Talaingod Davao Del Norte on Thursday.
