MANILA - The lawyer of an anti-crime watchdog group on Sunday said he would file an impeachment complaint against Commission on Elections Chairman Andres Bautista.
Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption lawyer Jacinto Paras said the complaint would cite the hacking of the Comelec website last January and the use of a new computer code in one of the servers used in last year's elections.
"Magfa-file po ako. I'm taking the cudgels for the people kasi public interest na po itong umiiral dito," Jacinto Paras of the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption told radio DZMM.
(I will file. I'm taking the cudgels for the people because public interest must prevail.)
Bautista is embroiled in a more recent controversy. His estranged wife, Patricia, alleged last week that he had P1 billion in undeclared wealth.
Bautista said the allegation was part of a "" to discredit him. He also accused his wife of demanding P620 million and claimed that a copy of an impeachment complaint was "surreptitiously" sent to his family months before Patricia's accusations came out.
Paras distanced himself from Patricia, saying he started drafting his impeachment complaint in November.
"Ito pong original impeachment complaint na ginawa namin, wala po itong kinalaman sa ni-reveal ni Patricia," he said.
Paras did not say when he would file the complaint, but claimed that a congressman had promised to endorse it.
