MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte said he will give a reward of P25,000 to those who could kill a member of the communist New People's Army (NPA).
"Gaya ng mga NPA. Sabi niya, 'You kill one soldier a day.' Oh really? Ang sabi ko rin sa lahat, 'You kill—' Tinataasan ko na ngayon. 'You kill an NPA today and I’ll pay you P25,000'," Duterte said during a private meeting on Tuesday in Cebu City.
"Kwenta-kwenta ko kasi kung mag-abot itong four years. P***, mahal masyado. Gyera eh. Kung bayaran ko na lang 'yung buhay na P25,000, makamura ako by about 47 percent."
Duterte was reacting to an earlier statement by Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) founding chair Jose Maria Sison that the NPA is still capable of launching attacks that could kill one government soldier a day and force the government to return to the negotiation table.
"Now I'm placing a premium. Sige, P25,000. Magkugi ka la'g kamang diha sa lasang, maka-igo gyud ka'g usa. Igo man gani nimo ang langgam ngadto sa taas, eh kana pa. Kadako ana'g ulo. Hambugero man gud ang NPA. Mayabang eh, nakakaasar," he said.
(Now, I’m placing a premium. Sige, P25,000. If you work really hard to crawl across the forest, you’ll surely be able to shoot even just one. If you can shoot a bird above you, then how much more about an [NPA] whose head is so big? The NPAs are boastful. Mayabang eh, nakakaasar.)
The President earlier threatened to have five New People’s Army (NPA) rebels killed for every soldier killed by the communist guerrillas.
Duterte in November last year terminated peace talks with the National Democratic Front amid the NPA’s attacks against government troops despite the ongoing peace talks.
He also labeled the CPP-NPA as a terror organization.
