MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte is prohibiting Cabinet members from using protocol license plates.
"By the way, wala akong plate number. I do not use it. And no Cabinet member is allowed to use the '6," Duterte said.
"'1' is the President. If you use '1,' you deserve it. You're a very lonely man and you will die of boredom there."
A lawmaker earlier asked the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to give lawmakers "parliamentary immunity" from minor traffic violations.
This immunity, Ilocos Norte Rep. Rodolfo Fariñas proposed, may be invoked during session hours, wherein a violating lawmaker may be allowed to proceed to the House of Representatives but will be surrendered to the proper authorities after the session.
Fariñas, who admits to being strict on late-comers at the House of Representatives, said heavy traffic has been limiting representatives from carrying out their mandate.
Malacañang has since urged lawmakers to practice a modest lifestyle and avoid seeking special treatment.
