LIBONA, Bukidnon - The 14-year old son of a former chief of Barangay Kinawe was killed after unidentified gunmen ambushed their vehicle in this town on Saturday afternoon.

The victim and his father Tarcisio Barros were heading home from their farm when the suspects opened fire on their vehicle in Zone 7, Barangay Kinawe.

Barros' son suffered a gunshot wound to his head and died at a hospital.

The former barangay captain said he may have been the target of the ambush, which he claimed may be connected to a land dispute he had with some relatives.

"Land conflict is normal for relatives," said Barros.

Investigators, meanwhile, said the crime may be politically motivated, noting that Barros' wife is the current chief of Barangay Kinawe.
Recovered from the crime scene were 16 empty shells of an M16 rifle, a water bottle and some snacks possibly used by the gunmen as they waited for the victims.
