Temperature in the summer capital plunged to 12.8 degrees Celsius Saturday morning, the coldest so far this month, as the northeast monsoon continued to blow cool winds across the country.

State weather bureau PAGASA recorded the temperature in Baguio City at 6 a.m.

Residents and tourists in the city and other nearby provinces may have to bundle up until February as the cold weather is expected to last until next month.

"Puwede pang bumaba ang temperature dahil sa hanging amihan. Galing siya sa mid-latitude na bahagi ng mundo kaya nadadala niya dito 'yung malamig na hangin," PAGASA forecaster Lori Dela Cruz told ABS-CBN News.

Last month, temperature in Baguio dropped to as low as 11 degrees Celsius.

In February 2017, the summer capital recorded its lowest temperature of 9 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, temperatures in Metro Manila, Cebu City and Davao City are expected to hover between 23 and 25 degrees Celsius. -- with reports from Teomar Bautista and Katrina Domingo, ABS-CBN News
