MANILA, Philippines - Another Weesam Express vessel malfunctioned in the middle of its trip on Monday.

The main engine of Weesam Express 6, which was carrying 133 passengers and 11 crew members, malfunctioned 7 nautical miles off Lawis Ledge in Talisay City, Cebu around 4:30 p.m. The vessel came from Tagbiliran City, Bohol.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in Bohol was able to rescue the passengers and crew members of the vessel 3 hours later.

The incident happened just after the PCG in Cebu received the suspension order from the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) for the company’s 5 vessels.

The suspension order was served after one of the company’s vessel, the Weesam Express 8, ran aground in the waters of Talisay City and left 208 stranded last Saturday. Incidentally, it was the Weesam Express 6 used to rescue the 208 passengers. – Report from Jun Nino, ABS-CBN News Central Visayas
