MANILA – If you’ve been raring to buy that Kenneth Cobonpue Bloom chair, now is the perfect time.
In a rare opportunity, the world-renowned Filipino designer – whose high-end furniture pieces have been bought by the likes of Brad Pitt, Jackie Chan, and Harrison Ford – is offering a discount.
Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) has partnered with Cobonpue so they can offer the designer’s creations at slightly lower prices. BPI cardholders can avail of a 30% discount for straight credit card transactions and 20% off for 12-month installments this Friday, October 13, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
On October 14 and 15, they can get a 15% discount.
The promo covers all of the items at Cobonpue’s showroom at The Residences at Greenbelt in Makati, except for the designer’s holiday collection of home accessories.
“We used to give discounts at Manila FAME, but only for the floor pieces. We don’t exhibit at Manila FAME anymore, so this is the only opportunity for them to get a discount,” Cobonpue told ABS-CBN News during the VIP preview sale on Thursday.
“It’s very rare that we give discounts. Take this opportunity. It may never happen again,” he added in jest. “Being a luxury brand, we don’t usually do this.”
Here’s a look at some of Cobonpue’s furniture and their original prices. Take 20% to 30% off if you’re planning to drop by his showroom this Friday, or 15% if you’re visiting this coming weekend:
Born in Cebu, Cobonpue is best known internationally for the award-winning Bloom chair, which consists of microfiber stitched over a resin top with a steel base.
His Yoda chairs, which are inspired by blades of grass, were showcased at the 2015 APEC Economic Leaders’ welcome dinner.
“I always say that the world doesn’t need another chair. We have to tell a story that’s different and unique in the world of design,” he said.
“We try to make our culture global through the designs. There are so many things here that are inspired by the Philippines, like fishnets and the shapes of the islands,” he added.
Aside from Manila and his hometown of Cebu, Cobonpue has also opened showrooms in New York and in Munich, Germany.
The multi-awarded designer has also ventured into lighting and smaller home décor such as trays and wine holders.
“These start at under P1,000,” he said as he pointed to a pair of ceramic mice. “It’s more accessible, but still luxury. The designs are still unique and whimsical.”
