MANILA - "The blue nights draw to a close (and they will, and they do)."
That is just one of the beautiful short poetic lines written on Jem Magbanua's paintings primarily reflecting "the poetics of space," where "the surrounding nuances are symbolic of individual subjectivity and states of mind and soul."
Her paintings are dominated by the color blue which are "forays into the unknown that represent the boundless human imagination and frontier spirit."
In her exhibit titled "Inner Weather," Magbanua uses fractured placements of various landscape elements, such as the sun, the moon, and the stars to provide "an inspired combination of poetry and analytical study."
One may be attracted to Magbanua's paintings for their beautiful shades of blue and artistic use of geometry, but viewers will surely be drawn to her works more for their lines of poetry.
"Inner Weather" can be viewed at Artery Art Space in Cubao from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. until August 19. Entrance is free of charge.
