She was mulling over five gorgeous gowns she had made for the premiere of "Crazy Rich Asians" in Hollywood. But when the day came, Kris Aquino chose one by Michael Leyva.
But proving to be a good sport, the other designer, Francis Libiran, didn't feel too bad about Aquino's decision. He even congratulated Leyva for wonderfully "representing Filipino artistry."
He left his message under one of Aquino's posts on Instagram about the event, and it prompted a reply from her. She explained why she went with Levya's creation instead of his, saying it had something to do with the bruises she had from her recent health scare.
"I loved your creation, especially the yellow," she told Libiran. "But I have a badly bruised left arm from my Indonesia health scare and the sleeves ended right where the bruising was most prominent."
"[Leyva] was such a good sport - he said whichever Filipiniana would be PERFECT. I just didn't want people to speculate about my health so I'm expressing it here now -- my being anemic makes me so prone to bruising especially after bad allergic attacks."
She concluded her explanation by promising Libiran: "I shall wear that beautiful modern Filipiniana SOONEST."
Libiran replied back: "Thank you, and congratulations Kris! We are so proud of you! You looked stunning and gorgeous!"
"And I am so proud of Michael Leyva for doing a great job not just for you but for Philippine fashion! Your presence in Hollywood best represents the power of Filipino artistry and creativity showing the world what we are really made of."
Aquino was part of the premiere of "Crazy Rich Asians" because of her role as a Malay princess in the movie, scheduled to open in local cinemas this August 22.
