MANILA -- Though there’s still another weekend to catch “Changing Partners” at the PETA-Phinma Theater, there are followers of the stage musical who are already curious about what happened to its two characters Alex and Cris. Are they going to end up together as they age? Would the sequel’s title be “Aging Partners?”

“That’s the running joke among the cast members but no I haven’t thought of the title,” said Vincent de Jesus told ABS-CBN News, giggling, as he raised a glass of wine.

The acclaimed musician-theater-TV-film actor is the musical’s composer, lyricist, musical director and playwright. In a previous interview, he said he’s working on the story about Alex and Cris three years after their separation and the cast members are all excited about it.

They all have high praises for De Jesus.

“Vince is brilliant," Rem Zamora, the stage musical’s director raved. "Hindi ko alam kong naisip ni Vince ‘to, o lumabas lang na hindi niya iniisip. Paano niya tinatahi? Malalaman mo na parang hindi. He’s a genius.”

Agot Isidro, who plays Alex, said, “Innate na sa kanya (De Jesus) 'yung ganoong creativity. Paano niya tinahi from start to finish, 'di ba?”

Vincent de Jesus’s says “cheers!” to those who’ve seen “Changing Partners” the stage musical. Handout

Jojit Lorenzo, who also plays Alex, said, “Kung na-experience niya in real life, it’s a great courage for him na ilabas ang nararamdaman niya bilang story ni Alex and Cris.”

Lorenzo added from play to movie to play, the material has evolved. “Nagkakaron ng bagong layers,” he said.

Isidro said though there were some slight changes in the dialogues, the narrative remains the same. “Mas makapal lang siya,” she said.

Sandino Martin, who plays Cris in both the movie and musical version, said as an actor he found something new in applying to the character. “Ang daming pwedeng madagdag sa isang eksena, from the first musical to the movie to the musical version now. That’s how creative the script is. Ang lawak niya.”

The limited run of “Changing Partners” makes them miss it more than ever.

After “Changing Partners,” they will go back acting for various top-rating soaps and telenovelas of ABS-CBN.

Isidro is part of the afternoon soap, “Asintado,” where she plays the mother of Shaina Magdayao’s character. She said she’s glad to know that many are watching “Asintado” on iwantv.com. “Kasi nga sa hapon siya napapalabas so ‘yung mga umuuwi from work, sa iwantv sila nanood. Malakas siya dun.”

Lorenzo was part of the recently concluded “The Good Son,” and there’s a new project for him though he can’t reveal yet which one. He said he’s also excited about “Goyo, Ang Batang Heneral,” the biopic on Gregorio del Pilar, in which he plays a photographer. “Ako 'yung kumuha ng mga photos ni Goyo,” he said. It is topbilled by Kapamilya actor Paulo Avelino. It is scheduled to be shown sometime in September this year.

Martin is part of the top-rating primetime drama-action-suspense series, “The Blood Sisters,” in which he plays a contravida to one of lead actress Erich Gonzales’s characters. It airs before “TV Patrol.”

The other cast member of “Changing Partners” the stage musical, Anna Luna plays Cris. She is a new addition to Star Magic 2018 and has lots of projects in store for her via Dreamscape Entertainment.

“Changing Partners” is a passion project of De Jesus, Zamora and all four cast members. Rest assured, De Jesus said they won’t be that old, or aging actors already, before the sequel of the musical will be staged.

It has remaining shows this weekend at the PETA-Phinma Theater.
