MANILA -- Here are some of the events, shows, and activities you can check out this weekend.

1. THE MONKEY KING MAKING HAVOC IN HEAVEN 

When: May 19-20

This special performance of “The Monkey King Making Havoc in Heaven” features the Qingdao Peking Opera Company and marks the 43rd year of the formal establishment of the Philippines-China diplomatic relations. 

The visit of the Qingdao Peking Opera Company shall feature performances, interactions, lecture-demonstration, and pre-production meetings with Filipino theater artists to facilitate a traditional theatrical collaboration between the Philippines and China. 

The Qingdao Peking Opera Company is one of the elite and distinguished Peking opera troupes in China. Its classic traditional repertoires has won extensive influence and deep love among audiences from home and abroad.

2. RP10: RICHARD POON 10TH ANNIVERSARY CONCERT 

When: May 18
Where: Newport Performing Arts Theatre, Resorts World Manila

Crooner Richard Poon hits another milestone as he celebrates his 10th year in the business with a special anniversary concert.

Featuring a 21-piece big band orchestra, the concert promises a beautiful trip down memory lane with special guests Erik Santos, Christian Bautista, Kean Cipriano, Sitti and Nyoy Volante.

Directed by John Prats, the show will be all about celebrating the old times while offering a new and fresh approach to timeless musicl, Richard Poon-style. 

3. R.O.X. OUTDOOR FESTIVAL

When: May 19-20
Where: Bonifacio High Street, Taguig

The R.O.X. Outdoor Festival is back! This year’s festival is all about encouraging families and friends to go outside and play. Highlights this weekend include the R.O.X. zero-gravity bouldering competition, outdoor guide sessions, outdoor movie, as well as a sale. 

There will also be on-site activations by brands, outdoor groups, advocacy groups, and tour operators who will be offering exclusive services and promotions throughout the event.

There will also be an online photo contest, which encourages outdoor lovers to share the many ways in which they play outside by posting a photo on social media using the hashtag #ROXPlayOutside. Winners will be selected weekly and will receive gift certificates from R.O.X. as well as a chance to have their photos exhibited.

4. JUST LOVE ARAW-ARAW FAN MEET

When: May 19-20
Where: ABS-CBN Vertis Tent

The much-awaited fan meet features Loisa Andalio and Ronnie Alonte on May 19 at 3 p.m. The evening show, meanwhile, will have the team up of Maymay Entrata and Edward Barber at 7 p.m.

Fans will get to see Maris Racal and Inigo Pascual on May 20 at 3 p.m., while JoshLia fans will get to interact with Julia Barretto and Joshua Garcia at 7 p.m.

The event will have games, challenges, and other fun activities, plus live performances from the love teams.

Guests are also encouraged to join the “Dress To Impress” game by wearing their head-turning OOTD to get a chance to have a groufie shot with their favorite stars.

They may also show love through art by creating a Fan Art dedicated to their favorite love team to get the chance to be handpicked by their idols and bring home their previous pre-loved item.

5. TAGAYTAY ART BEAT

When: May 19
Where: Museo Orlina, Tagaytay City

The third edition of Tagaytay Art Beat features performances by Autotelic, Ben&Ben, Motherbasss, Oh Flamingo!, Tom’s Story, Farewell Fair Weather, Leanne & Naara, Clara Benin, Bea Lorenzo, Reese Lansangan, Julianne, Dayaw, Adinkra Lumads, UBE, The Ransom Collective, Munimuni, Mayonnaise, Apoc x DJ Nicko, Kjah x Supreme Fist, BLKD x The Tooters, Mr. Bones and the Boneyard Circus, I Belong to the Zoo, Max Javelino, Hale, and The Itchyworms.

Jessica Milner, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, and mikecons will provide the beats, while Kris Abrigo, Jappy Agoncillo, Distort Monsters, Aral Cru, and Dee Jae Paeste will feature their murals.

Guests can also view an exhibit of works by Rydel Arayta, Gab Baez, Dennis Bato, Hannah Bundalian, Lee Caces, Kim Pamela Co, Mykie Concepcion, Jess De Leon, Jenny Gernale, Dennis Jimenez, Gab Loste, Razel Mari, Anthony Molina, Lhean Storm, and Bea Policarpio.

6. DING, ANG BATO!

When: May 15-21
Where: SDA Theater, De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde’s School of Design and Arts

The production marks the return to the stage of Darna, the Filipina superhero and icon created by comic book legend Mars Ravelo. Set in contemporary times, it is told from the perspective of Ding, Narda’s deaf brother. 

The production is led by the director and librettist Chris Millado, choreographer Denisa Reyes, co-choreographer Ernest Mandap, and composer Ejay Yatco with Jef Flores. They will be leading the collaboration between professional and student musical theater performers, dance majors, singers, and multimedia practitioners of the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde’s School of Design and Arts.

CSB’s Dance Department chair Christine Crame reprises the role of Darna, which originally first took ‘flight’ at the Cultural Center of the Philippines in 2003. Natasha Cabrera takes on the role of Valentina. 

7. SPLASH FEST

When: May 19
Where: Central Park, SM by the Bay

Bring out the water guns, call the squad and be ready for a battle royale at the country's biggest water gun festival. Play awesome games, take cool photos and party all night with the country’s top independent artists.

8. INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM DAY

When: May 18
Where: Various locations 

At least nine museums in Metro Manila are expected to offer free admission in celebration of International Museum Day. These include Yuchengco Museum in Makati, Metropolitan Museum and Museong Pambata in Manila, Bahay Tsinoy in Intramuros, and QCX Museum in Quezon City.

Also open to the public for free on May 18 are all properties under the National Museum – the National Museum for Fine Arts, National Museum of Anthropology, National Museum of Natural History, and the Planetarium.

Meanwhile, the Ayala Museum in Makati will celebrate International Museum Day on Sunday, May 20, offering free admission.

9. THE KING OF THREES

When: May 19, 4 p.m.
Where: Taft Food by the Court

This 3-point shootout from Buendia Food by the Court and Taft Food by the Court, in partnership with DAYO, a soon-to-be-launched online-based app targeting basketball-loving Filipinos, will be launched this weekend.

The year-round event will be held interchangeably between the courts at Buendia Food by the Court and Taft Food by the Court located in Makati City and Pasay City, respectively. 

Individuals and teams composed of five players (with two alternates) can sign up at any of the admin offices of the food parks. What they will be grinding for is the P10,000 cash prize to be declared as the monthly champion in the Individual category; P20,000 cash prize for the monthly champion in the Team category; and a ticket to P100,000 cash prize as the Grand Champion of Kings of Threes in the Individual category; and P200,000 cash prize as the Grand Champion of the Kings of Threes in the Team category.

10. HARRY AND MEGHAN SAY ‘I DO’

Offering their expert opinions, unique insights and unrestrained reactions are royal dress designer David Emanuel, host of "Say Yes to the Dress UK"; Curvy Brides’ Boutique’s Jo Cooke and Alison Law; reality bride and groom-to-be Olivia Buckland and Alex Bowen; Randy Fenoli of "Say Yes to the Dress"; and Monte Durham and Lori Allen from "Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta."

11. HALLYU AND I

Join Marie Lozanop as she visits location shoots of various hit Korean drama series such as “Goblin” that are now tourist attractions. She even gets to interview Korean superstar Lee Dong-Wook, who played Grim Reaper in the series, and several K-pop stars.

Aside from enjoying the sights and sceneries of South Korea, Lozano will also relish in the vibrant flavors of Korean cuisine from its traditional dishes that were served to the royal courts, to the more casual and modern chicken and beer pairing.

Viewers will also get to catch up on the latest beauty and fashion trends through a shopping experience in the district of Myeongdong with Lozano sampling the beauty products herself.

This will also be shown on Wednesday, May 23, 8 p.m. on “Docu Hour” on ANC and ANC HD.
