MANILA - Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on Saturday clarified that the influential Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) has yet to formally endorse any candidate for the presidency and vice presidency.

"Ang katotohanan ay wala pang official na sinasabi ang kapatiran. At inaantay pa natin ang pagpasya ng INC," Marcos told reporters in Lucena City, Quezon.

But Marcos said he remains hopeful that he will get the endorsement of the INC, whose members are known to practice bloc voting during elections.

"Sana naman ay mabigyan tayo ng suporta ng ating mga kaibigan sa INC at lahat po ng kung ano mang pananampalataya ng ating mga kababayan," he said.

Marcos on Friday claimed that he has secured the support of the powerful sect, saying he was informed by the INC leadership of its decision on Tuesday.

The senator noted that the INC also supported his father, the late President Ferdinand Marcos.

INC spokesman Edwil Zabala, however, told ANC that the Iglesia has yet to endorse any candidate.

Marcos has sustained his lead in the latest ABS-CBN survey by Pulse Asia, getting 31% voter support, a two-point improvement from the previous poll.

Following Marcos was Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo (26%) at second place and Senator Francis Escudero at third place (18%).

Senators Alan Peter Cayateno got 15%, Antonio Trillanes IV 3%, and Gringo Honasan 2%. - Report from Val Balita, ABS-CBN News Southern Tagalog
