MANILA - Kevin Kwan, author of the book “Crazy Rich Asians,” on Friday laid to rest rumors that Kris Aquino would play a role in the book's Hollywood adaptation.
The former Kapamilya actress and host will play a "very special part" in the film," Kwan said,.
"I think audiences are going to love it," he said.
Aquino had teased on Instagram that she would be part of the movie, posting a photo with lead star Constance Wu. She also told her social media followers that she had hired a Hollywood agent.
"Kris Aquino is part of the cast," Kwan told ANC's Headstart
Kwan said he “absolutely” wanted Aquino to be part of the movie.
“She’s Kris Aquino. She has a dynamic personality and we thought she would be perfect for this role,” he added.
Aquino flew to Singapore in May to meet with Wu, telling her Instagram followers that she was there for a "dream" project.
"I know how exhausted she was BUT she still made the effort to pleasantly converse with me," Aquino wrote on Instagram.
Another Filipino in the cast is "Superstore" comedian Nico Santos. The ensemble also includes Michelle Yeoh, Gemma Chan, and Ken Jeong.
"Crazy Rich Asians" is not Aquino's first foreign film. She had starred in the fantasy comedy 'Magic to Win' in the early 1990s after making her debut in "Pido Dida" with the late Rene Requiestas.
Her most recent comedies include "Sisterakas" with Vice Ganda and Ai-Ai delas Alas and "My Little Bossings" with Vic Sotto.
She last appeared on Antoinette Jadaone-helmed "All You Need Is Pag-ibig", an entry to the 2015 Metro Manila Film Festival.
