Were 'KimErald,' other 'PBB' love teams planned? Direk Lauren answers

It's fair to say that there's a good number of skeptics out there who bemoan the lack authenticity in reality shows, especially in the supposed serendipitous love stories formed within them.

Some would argue that these romantic emotions are "scripted," prepared way before a program begins airing, as a relatively sure-fire method to attract viewers.

But according to "Pinoy Big Brother" (PBB) big boss Lauren Dyogi, there's very little truth to these claims.

Sure, they think up tasks to help bring out personalities of the chosen housemates ahead of time, based on the info they have about them, but they cannot "impose" emotions or feelings.

Audiences are too smart nowadays, Dyogi pointed out, and they would immediately notice if those feelings aren't genuine.

"Hindi po planado ang pagla-love team," he said in his defense in a new video blog YouTube uploaded Wednesday. "Of course, we welcome them dahil isa po iyan sa mga pinapanood ng mga manonood pero we don't plan it."

"We are always hoping, somehow, but it's never planned because we will never know. You cannot fake -- we cannot impose an emotion or a feeling on a particular housemate," he explained.

Citing Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson, he argued that they could not have predicted that the two would fall in love.

He said Anderson could have developed feelings for any of the other female housemates -- as what normally happens when you force people to spend time with each other for a long time.

Dyogi also mentioned Melai Cantiveros and Jason Francisco, who even ended up marrying each other and having children; and among the more recent ones, Elisse Joson and Mccoy De Leon.

He recalled that De Leon was not even supposed to be in last year's "Pinoy Big Brother," if not for Ronnie Alonte's decision to back out of the chance to become a housemate.

These small, previously unreleased details, he said, can attest to the randomness of how these wonderful, unexpected love stories are born.
