'Bye, shine': How to deal with oily skin

Whether you're at work or in school, it's time to take on the shine and look fresh all day with these proven tips for an impressive and attractive glow.

1. Cleanse well

Always cleanse your face thoroughly after waking up. Use a cleanser with at least 2% salicylic acid if you have oily skin. Don’t forget to wash your hands before touching your face to avoid putting oils from your fingers to your skin.

2. Eat right

Stay away from greasy food. Spicy food and cocktails can also dilate blood vessels and cause you to sweat. So as much as you love happy hour, limit yourself to one drink a night and eat spicy foods no more than once a week. Load up instead on Vitamin A rich foods like carrots, melon, and spinach.

3. Mattify primer

Use a primer before applying foundation to keep 'shine' at bay. It will also absorb excess oil and give the skin a smooth, velvety finish.


4. Use right foundation

Pick a foundation that is oil-free or has a mineral powder foundation, which can absorb excess oil like a sponge. A mattifying foundation also works wonders on an oily face.


5. Exfoliate

Exfoliation helps reduce oil in the face and following it up with a face mask can be key to having great, oil-free skin. Exfoliate once or twice a week to maintain that oil-free look. 

6. Hydrate

If you've been using night creams heavily, maybe it's time to switch to a light lotion that your skin will absorb. Another option is to try a nice hydrating serum that can illuminate the skin without shine.
